Barbara Bush selects a Old World Christmas ornament!

In 1961, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy started the White House tradition of selecting an official holiday theme. For her daughter, Caroline, Mrs. Kennedy created a Nutcracker-themed Christmas at the White House – and the tradition has lived on ever since.

This also included the president's wife choosing an official ornament to signify their endeavors as First Lady. Barbara Bush chose to decorate her tree with tiny books and popular characters from children’s books to reflect her favorite cause as First Lady – literacy.  When it came time to pick just one ornament to represent her legacy, Barbara Bush chose the Old World Christmas Stack of Books ornament.  Our ornament is now exquisitely displayed in the Grand Foyer of the White House every Christmas Season! We are truly honored and humbled to have even just a small connection to the amazing Barbara Bush through one of our Christmas ornaments!
